Job description

Intermediate / Senior Accountant | Business Services & Advisory

Clear progression. No timesheet pressure. Complex clients. Genuine work-life balance.

Are you an ambitious Public Practice Accountant looking for more than just another compliance role?

This is an opportunity to join a highly regarded, progressive CBD accounting firm that combines the technical exposure and client quality of a large firm with the culture, flexibility and career progression typically found in a much more modern environment.

With a young and collaborative team, strong leadership and a genuine focus on developing its people, this firm offers a clear pathway to progress your career without sacrificing your work-life balance.

What’s on offer?

A clear pathway for progression
You won't be left wondering what it takes to reach the next level. The firm has a transparent career matrix outlining exactly what is required at each stage, supported by bi-annual salary and
promotion reviews - Whether your ambition is to become a Senior, Manager or ultimately progress into leadership, you'll have a genuine pathway and support to get there.

No timesheet or KPI micromanagement
Forget being judged purely on chargeable hours.

There are no individual KPIs, and timesheets and productivity aren't used to micromanage performance. Instead, the team works collaboratively through regular workflow meetings, discussing workloads, job expectations and any challenges before they become problems.

Interesting, complex client work
You'll gain exposure to a genuinely diverse and high-quality client portfolio, including:

  • High-net-worth individuals and complex family groups
  • Well-known sporting personalities
  • Consumer and fashion brands
  • Property investment and development groups
  • Large corporate and listed businesses
  • Complex group structures with multiple entities
  • International businesses and cross-border taxation matters

Clients range from entrepreneurial businesses through to large, complex organisations, giving you exposure well beyond the typical SME compliance portfolio.
Your role will offer a mix of Business Services, Tax Compliance and Advisory, with opportunities to gain exposure to areas including management accounting, M&A and complex tax matters.

Work-life balance actually means something
The firm genuinely prioritises flexibility and sustainable workloads.

  • Hybrid working – 2 days from home
  • Flexible and staggered start/finish times
  • A typical working day of around 9am–5pm
  • Minimal overtime expectations
  • Additional leave incentives
  • Regular wellness days

Invested in your development
You'll be supported by an allocated mentor and have access to a structured training and development programme, including:

  • Regular technical training sessions
  • Tax discussion groups and specialist presentations
  • External industry experts
  • Soft skills and leadership workshops
  • CCH and Tax Institute training
  • CA / CPA support and study leave
  • Training tailored to areas you want to develop

You'll receive regular feedback and genuine hands-on support from experienced Managers and Directors.

The culture
This is a young, social and collaborative environment where people genuinely enjoy working together.
The firm has worked hard to maintain a culture where people are approachable, supportive and invested in each other's success. You'll work closely with experienced professionals while still having the autonomy to take ownership of your work and develop your own client relationships.

About you
You'll ideally have:

  • 2+ years' Australian Public Practice experience
  • Experience preparing financial statements and income tax returns
  • Exposure to Business Services and Tax clients
  • Strong communication skills and a genuine interest in developing your career
  • CA / CPA qualification underway or ambitions to commence
