About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Contract Manager to support a major capital delivery portfolio within a large Victorian public-sector organisation.
This is a senior contract management and advisory role supporting major projects across design and delivery. You will work closely with Senior Project Managers and project teams to provide practical contractual advice, maintain strong governance and compliance, and help ensure projects remain on track.
The portfolio includes approximately 10-15 active projects/contracts at various stages of delivery, with project values ranging from approximately $30M to $400M.
You will work across complex construction-related contracts and agreements, providing advice on contractual obligations, project issues, claims, variations, disputes and contractor performance. While the role requires a strong commercial understanding, it is not purely a commercial or procurement position.
You will also work closely with internal and external stakeholders, providing guidance to Project Managers and helping build understanding of contractual and governance requirements across the project environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and provide advice across a portfolio of complex contracts supporting major capital projects
- Partner with Senior Project Managers and project teams throughout the project lifecycle
- Provide advice on contractual obligations, risks, issues and project requirements
- Review and assess contractual matters, claims, variations, extensions of time and disputes
- Support the resolution of contractual issues with contractors and service providers
- Monitor contractor and service provider performance
- Ensure contracts and project activities comply with relevant policies, governance requirements and legislation
- Provide contract governance and oversight across major capital delivery projects
- Review contracts, agreements and supporting documentation and provide practical advice to project teams
- Support Project Managers in understanding and managing their contractual responsibilities
- Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, service providers and other external parties
- Provide advice and influence stakeholders across a range of personalities and levels of seniority
- Participate in regular project and contract meetings, including monthly meetings
- Contribute to continuous improvement of contract management, governance and compliance practices
- Attend project sites when required, using a fleet vehicle for site travel
About You
You will be an experienced Contract Manager with a strong background in complex construction, infrastructure or major capital delivery environments.
You will bring:
- Approximately 10 years' relevant experience in contract management, construction, infrastructure, legal or a closely related field
- Strong experience managing complex construction or infrastructure contracts
- A legal or construction law background is essential
- Experience providing contractual advice to Project Managers and senior stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience managing claims, variations, extensions of time, disputes and contractual issues
- Strong understanding of commercial contracts and contractual risk
- Experience working across governance, compliance and policy requirements
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with different personalities and stakeholder groups
- The confidence to provide advice, challenge appropriately and influence stakeholders without relying on direct authority
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A self-driven and proactive approach, with the ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment
- A current driver's licence, as occasional site travel will be required
