Hinterlander is a premium off-road campervan manufacturer based in Coolum Beach, Queensland. We design and build high-quality adventure vehicles with a focus on innovation, quality engineering, and exceptional craftsmanship.
We are looking for a highly skilled SolidWorks 3D CAD Designer to join our growing team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about mechanical design, understands manufacturing, and enjoys turning ideas into practical, production-ready solutions.
You will be working primarily with thin aluminium sheet metal (2–5mm), designing components, assemblies, and systems for our custom off-road campervans. Your designs will go directly from CAD into fabrication, so attention to detail and an understanding of real-world manufacturing processes are essential.
About the Role:
- Full-time position based in Coolum Beach, QLD
- Designing aluminium sheet metal components, assemblies, brackets, cabinetry, structures and systems
- Creating detailed SolidWorks models, drawings and manufacturing documentation
- Designing with fabrication methods in mind, including CNC cutting, bending, welding and assembly
- Working closely with our engineering and production teams to refine designs
- Improving existing designs and developing new products from concept through to production
About You:
We are looking for someone who is:
- Highly proficient in SolidWorks
- Experienced in sheet metal design and fabrication
- Able to create accurate, production-ready CAD models and drawings
- Detail-focused with excellent problem-solving skills
- Practical and understands how things are manufactured, not just how they look in CAD
- Self-motivated, reliable and takes pride in their work
- A hard worker who enjoys being part of a small, high-performing team
Experience that would be highly valued:
- Aluminium sheet metal design experience
- CNC fabrication knowledge
- Experience designing for vehicles, caravans, marine, aerospace or similar industries
- Understanding of tolerances, fasteners, welding and assembly processes
- Experience taking products from concept to finished manufacture
