Our client is seeking an experienced Shire Liaison Officer to join a well-established residential construction company based in South Fremantle. This is a temporary ongoing position offering an excellent opportunity for an organised and proactive approvals professional to secure consistent work within a supportive construction environment.
The successful candidate will coordinate planning and building approval applications, liaise with shires, building surveyors and consultants, and work closely with internal pre-construction teams to resolve issues and prevent unnecessary delays.
This is not a purely administrative position. Our client is looking for someone who understands residential construction approvals, takes ownership of applications and confidently follows up councils and project stakeholders.
What you’ll be doing:
- Preparing, submitting and tracking planning and building permit applications
- Liaising with local shires, councils, building surveyors and other approval authorities
- Coordinating architectural plans, engineering documents, energy assessments and supporting reports
- Responding to Requests for Further Information and coordinating required amendments
- Monitoring application timeframes and following up outstanding approvals
- Reviewing planning and building approval conditions
- Communicating approval requirements to drafting, estimating, construction and pre-construction teams
- Maintaining accurate records of submissions, correspondence, approvals and permit expiry dates
- Coordinating demolition approvals, crossover applications, verge permits and related approvals where required
What you’ll need:
- Previous experience in residential construction, building approvals, town planning or local government liaison
- Demonstrated experience preparing and managing planning or building permit applications
- Experience liaising with local councils, building surveyors, consultants and internal construction teams
- Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple applications and deadlines
- Confidence following up outstanding matters and resolving approval issues
- The ability to interpret building plans, approval conditions and technical documentation
- A proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to work independently
- Experience using Microsoft Office and construction or workflow-management systems
- Full working rights in Australia
- A qualification in building and construction, town planning, building surveying or a related discipline will be highly regarded
