About the Role

Peabody is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join the Technical Services team at Coppabella Moorvale Joint Venture (CMJV).

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will be the senior geotechnical expert on site, providing technical leadership, strategic guidance and practical solutions to support safe and efficient mining operations. You will oversee geotechnical risk management, monitoring systems, mine design assurance and hazard management while mentoring and developing the site's Geotechnical Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead geotechnical risk management and compliance activities.
  • Oversee geotechnical monitoring systems, including radar, survey, prism and piezometer monitoring.
  • Conduct and review advanced geotechnical assessments including slope stability, rockfall modelling and failure mode analysis.
  • Lead investigations into geotechnical events and provide recommendations for corrective actions and risk mitigation.
  • Ensure mine designs align with geotechnical recommendations, engineering principles and operational requirements.
  • Mentor and support the Geotechnical Engineer, fostering technical capability and professional development.
  • Provide strategic geotechnical advice to support short, medium and long-term mine planning activities.

The Lifestyle

This position is offered on a 9-day fortnight, working Monday to Friday one week and Monday to Thursday the following week, giving you every second Friday off. Choose the arrangement that works for you, with FIFO from Brisbane or DIDO options available. The option to live residentially in the town of Moranbah is also available.

About You

You are a proactive and technically capable geotechnical professional who enjoys solving complex challenges and influencing safe mining outcomes. You are a confident communicator who can build strong relationships across technical and operational teams while providing trusted engineering advice.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Degree qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering, Geomechanics, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in open cut mining geotechnical engineering.
  • Significant experience in senior technical or leadership roles.
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical risk management, slope stability and monitoring systems.
  • Experience mentoring and developing engineering professionals.
  • Proficiency in Rocscience software, including Slide and Rockfall analysis.
  • Experience using Maptek’s Vulcan and PointStudio.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and report-writing skills.
  • Sound understanding of relevant mining legislation, standards and industry best practice.
  • Current Driver's Licence.
  • S1, S2 and S3 competencies.
