KEY POINTS WE FOUND
  • Lead all commercial and contractual activities across a major project.
  • Manage procurement, negotiation and engagement of major suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Provide contractual guidance to Project Managers and other operational stakeholders.

Techforce is partnering with a well-established Australian engineering and construction contractor delivering large-scale projects across the resources, energy, infrastructure and industrial sectors.

We are recruiting a Commercial Manager to take ownership of the commercial and contractual function on a Major project. This is a senior project leadership position suited to an experienced Commercial Manager who has worked within major construction or resources environments and is comfortable operating across complex head contracts, subcontractor management, claims, project controls and senior client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all commercial and contractual activities across a major project.
  • Lead the preparation, negotiation and closeout of variations, extensions of time and remeasurement claims.
  • Oversee project cost reporting, forecasting, cashflow analysis and supplier liabilities.
  • Ensure commercial risks and opportunities are identified, tracked and actively managed throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage the procurement, negotiation and engagement of major suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Ensure appropriate commercial and contractual risk allocation is embedded within subcontract agreements.
  • Provide contractual guidance to Project Managers, Engineers and other operational stakeholders.
  • Maintain strong commercial relationships with clients, subcontractors and key project stakeholders.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the project commercial team.

The Requirements

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Law, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience working within commercial, contracts or quantity surveying functions on major projects.
  • Demonstrated experience operating in a senior Commercial Manager, Commercial Lead or equivalent position.
  • Strong experience managing head contracts within construction, resources, infrastructure or comparable project environments.
  • Strong experience managing subcontractor procurement, contract formation and downstream commercial risk.
  • Sound understanding of project cost control, forecasting, progress claims and cashflow management.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing commercial or contracts teams.

Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to take commercial ownership within an established Australian engineering and construction organisation with longer-term career development opportunities.

The position offers genuine influence across commercial strategy, contractual risk, project performance, client relationships and team leadership, rather than operating purely within a contract administration function.
