Description

Stantec is expanding their Urban Development capability in Australian Capital Territory, and we’re looking for a Principal Civil Engineer to join our Canberra team. This leadership role offers flexible working arrangements and the opportunity to drive some of the region’s most impactful community development projects.

As a Principal Engineer, your primary purpose is to lead the delivery of innovative, sustainable, and community-focused civil engineering solutions across the full project lifecycle from strategic planning and concept design to detailed design and implementation.

Day to day tasks would involve:

  • Lead project design teams and ensure all design documentation meets statutory standards and client requirements.

  • Oversee drafting and design outputs to maintain high technical quality and commercial viability.

  • Build strong relationships with clients, manage project scope changes, and contribute to ongoing business development.

  • Provide technical input into feasibility studies and complex design challenges, offering practical and cost-effective solutions.

  • Mentor junior staff and support their professional growth within a collaborative team environment.

  • Contribute to business strategy by supporting implementation of action plans and identifying opportunities for growth and industry recognition.

  • Business development with clients and lead/contribute to proposals

To be successful for this role you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering

  • Demonstrated experience in consulting field and/or recognised as a Principal Engineer in your current role working in either Transport, Land Development or Civil Infrastructure projects

  • Professional Engineering registration.

  • Strong technical expertise and ability to produce accurate design documentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven experience in time management and organisational skills including the ability to manage resources and delegate tasks effectively.

  • Ongoing commitment to professional development through self-study, training and seminars, and maintaining your Continual Professional Development (CPD)
