What we are looking for:

We are seeking a Plant Operator to join our Works Operations team. In this hands-on role, you will safely operate a range of specialist plant and fleet to deliver road construction, maintenance and drainage works across the Fraser Coast region. Working both independently and as part of a dedicated team, you'll contribute to the delivery of essential infrastructure that supports our community while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and customer service.

What your day will look like:

  • Operate specialist plant, fleet and attachments to undertake construction and maintenance works.
  • Perform road and drainage maintenance activities to Council standards.
  • Complete pre-start inspections and basic maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Support safe work practices, traffic management and site safety requirements.
  • Record completed works, timesheets and service requests using Council systems.
  • Provide professional customer service when working in public environments.

What you’ll need for success:

  • General Construction Induction (White Card).
  • Valid MR Licence recognised in Queensland.
  • Demonstrated experience operating plant and fleet in road and drainage maintenance environments.
  • Experience operating machinery such as trucks, tractors, backhoes and graders.
  • Sound knowledge of WHS, environmental and risk management requirements.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team outcomes.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to use mobile devices and works management systems to record work activities and timesheets.

What’s nice to have:

  • Valid HC Licence recognised in Queensland. 
  • Plant operation competencies or statements of attainment for equipment such as front-end loaders, backhoes, skid steers and excavators.
  • Traffic Management Implementation (Level 2).
  • Previous local government or civil construction experience.
