Tanami is one of Australia’s most remote and significant underground gold mines, located deep in the Tanami Desert of the Northern Territory. As a fully fly-in, fly-out (FIFO) operation, Tanami flies around 1,800 employees and contractors to site via its own airstrip, with teams working on a rotational camp roster. The mine was originally an open-pit operation but has evolved into a world-class underground asset with extensive modern infrastructure.

A major expansion (Tanami Expansion 2) is underway – including a 1.5-kilometre-deep hoisting shaft – to extend Tanami’s life beyond 2040 and increase production efficiency. The remote location fosters a close-knit team spirit, where safety and mutual respect are paramount. Tanami’s workforce is proud to work in partnership with the local Warlpiri people on whose land we operate, ensuring that our presence contributes positively to communities.

Your Impact

Your role – Manager, Technical Services: As Manager Technical Services, you will provide strategic and operational leadership across the Technical Services portfolio, partnering closely with Mine Operations and site leadership to deliver safe, reliable and efficient underground production outcomes.

You will lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for:

• Mine Planning
• Mine Geology
• Resource Geology
• Geotechnical Engineering
• Ventilation & Underground Infrastructure
• Backfill Engineering
• Technical Governance and Improvement Programs
   

You will play a critical role in integrating technical disciplines with operational execution, ensuring plans are practical, achievable and aligned with Tanami's business objectives. At Newmont, we place safety and wellbeing at the centre of everything we do.

As Part of Our Team, You Will

• Lead the Technical Services function and provide strategic direction across all underground technical disciplines.
• Develop and execute operational and business plans aligned to site and corporate objectives.
• Drive short, medium and long-range mine planning processes.
• Partner with operational leaders to optimise mine performance, productivity and cost efficiency.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and 12-week planning activities.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, corporate and operational health, safety and environmental requirements.
• Identify and manage technical, operational and business risks through effective governance and risk mitigation strategies.
• Champion continuous improvement initiatives and the implementation of innovative mining technologies and methodologies.
• Establish strong relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, consultants and regulatory authorities.
• Build a high-performing and inclusive team culture focused on accountability, collaboration and development.

Prerequisites for Success in This Role

You are an experienced technical mining leader with a strong background in underground operations and a demonstrated ability to deliver safe, reliable and productive outcomes. Combining sound technical expertise with effective planning and stakeholder engagement, you lead with integrity and accountability while empowering others to succeed. You are passionate about developing and mentoring teams, fostering an inclusive environment where people feel valued, supported and confident to contribute ideas and challenge constructively. Your collaborative approach enables you to build strong relationships across functions, drive continuous improvement and create a culture that embraces innovation and learning.

• Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
• Extensive experience in underground hard rock mining operations
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary Technical Services teams
• Strong understanding of mine planning, geology, geotechnical and ventilation functions
• Experience managing operational budgets, forecasts and business planning processes
• Well-developed risk management and operational governance capability
• Exceptional stakeholder engagement and influencing skills
• First Class Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency - Highly regarded
• Experience in large-scale underground gold mining operations - Highly regarded
• Exposure to modern mining technologies and mine optimisation initiatives - Highly regarded 

Your Work Environment

This role is offered on a 8 days on, 6 days off FIFO roster serviced from Perth, Brisbane, Darwin and Alice Springs. You’ll stay in on-site accommodation with modern amenities, including a well-equipped gym, recreation facilities, quality meals, and reliable connectivity.
