Lead AI Software Engineer - Australian HealthTech Organisation
-Join an exciting HealthTech business, based in Sydney's Inner West, as their Lead AI Software Engineer, a rare opportunity to be the sole human developer directing a workforce of AI coding agents to deliver production software at the scale of a full engineering team.
-You'll be the one setting the direction, breaking down what needs to be built and handing well-scoped work to AI agents, then checking their work before anything goes live. It's a hands-on role: you're still writing and reviewing code, but you're also thinking about architecture, security and how everything fits together in a healthcare setting. Ideally you'll bring experience across Node.js, TypeScript and React, though this isn't a dealbreaker if your background is in other modern stacks. This role is onsite two days per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
What you'll do:
-Own end-to-end delivery by planning, directing and supervising AI coding agents through design, build, test and deployment.
-Set technical architecture across front-end, APIs, services and integrations.
-Rigorously verify AI-generated code for correctness, security and performance.
-Build automated quality gates (testing, static analysis, CI/CD) as the primary safety net.
-Embed security and privacy best practice, especially around sensitive healthcare data.
-Drive continuous improvement in engineering standards, tooling and technical debt.
What you'll bring:
-Significant experience as a senior/lead engineer with modern tech stacks.
-Proven experience delivering production software using AI coding agents/agentic workflows.
-Strong system architecture, secure engineering and test automation expertise.
-Comfort operating as sole or primary engineer on a product or platform.
-Azure/cloud-native experience (certifications highly regarded).
-Excellent stakeholder communication skills.
