Financial Accountant - Construction/Project

Our client is a well-established and growing construction business seeking an experienced Project Accountant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working closely with project teams, managing project financials, and providing commercial insights to support successful project delivery.

Working closely with senior leadership and project managers, you will play a key role in managing project budgets, forecasting, reporting, and ensuring strong financial controls across multiple projects.

The Role Reporting into the CFO, your responsibilities will include:

• Prepare and manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports
• Monitor project costs, variations, commitments, and cash flow
• Reconcile accounts payable and receivable relating to project activities
• Manage subcontractor and supplier payment runs
• Provide financial insights, reporting, and variance analysis to project teams
• Support month-end reporting and preparation of management accounts
• Assist with revenue recognition and project profitability reporting
• Ensure compliance with accounting standards and internal financial controls

About You To be successful in this role, you will have:

• 5+ years’ accounting experience within a head contractor or construction environment
• Strong understanding of project accounting, job costing, cash flow, P&L, balance sheets and revenue recognition
• A Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline
• CPA qualified or actively working towards CPA certification
• Previous experience using Xero
• Advanced Excel skills with strong attention to detail and analytical capability
• The ability to work collaboratively with both finance and project delivery teams
