Role purpose

As an Education Counsellor at IDP, your primary role is to provide personalised and expert counselling to international students, assisting them in navigating their education pathway selections in line with their academic and professional goals. You will serve as a trusted advisor who offers clear, accurate, and culturally sensitive information about study options, admission requirements, and local educational systems.

Your responsibilities will include analysing student needs, guiding document preparation, facilitating application processes, and connecting students with appropriate educational institutions. Additionally, you will actively promote IDP’s full suite of student support services and products to enhance the student experience and success.

Through your engagement, you will contribute to shaping positive student journeys from inquiry to enrolment, collaborating closely with education providers and internal teams to ensure timely and effective communications. This role is crucial in helping students make informed decisions and ultimately succeed in their educational pursuits abroad.

Key accountabilities

  • Manage and attain pipeline and sales targets by effectively guiding prospective international students through every stage of their education journey. This includes promoting essential student products and services, maintaining and progressing leads, and ensuring successful application submissions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service by building rapport with students, their families, and education partners, providing clear and comprehensive information about study programs, admission criteria, and visa procedures.
  • Proactively participate in marketing and engagement events to generate leads and enhance brand visibility, while maintaining accurate and up-to-date records in the CRM system for effective pipeline management.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external education providers to streamline application processes and resolve student enquiries efficiently, ensuring a seamless enrolment experience.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for referrals and repeat business, contributing to sustained growth and strong customer advocacy for IDP's services.

Required experience

  • Experience in a customer-focused sales or service environment, demonstrating consistent achievement of individual and team targets within a competitive context.
  • Understanding of the education sector, specifically in the placement of students into Vocational Education and Training (VET) institutions and universities, including knowledge of relevant immigration regulations and application procedures.
  • Tertiary qualifications relevant to education counselling, student services, or a related discipline, complemented by prior professional experience in education counselling or similar  roles locally.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with fluency in English both spoken and written, enabling effective engagement with a diverse international student population and education stakeholders.
  • Additional language proficiency, particularly in Hindi, Punjabi, or another second language, is highly desirable and will enhance communication with key student communities.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and multicultural working environment.
