We're partnering with Golden Plains Shire Council on a temporary Development Engineer role in their Development Engineering team, based at Bannockburn, just a short run up the road from Geelong. It's a hands-on, caseload-driven role covering Council while the permanent position is filled, and it suits a development engineer who can hit the ground running with minimal technical supervision.
You'll get a quick induction into Council's systems and local requirements, then you'll manage your own allocated caseload across subdivision assessments, drainage designs, engineering referrals and development inspections.
What you'll be doing
- Assessing subdivision engineering plans, road and drainage designs, stormwater reports and supporting technical documentation
- Applying the Infrastructure Design Manual (IDM) and Council engineering standards to development assessments
- Preparing engineering referral responses, recommended planning permit conditions and requests for further information
- Undertaking development inspections, identifying outstanding or noncompliant works and preparing engineering clearance recommendations
- Supervising and auditing developer-funded subdivision works, including defects monitoring
- Liaising with developers, consultants and Council's Planning team, and keeping accurate assessment records
- Recognising complex or higher-risk matters and escalating them to the Coordinator with a clear recommendation
What you'll need
- Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering (eligible for Graduate or Member grade with Engineers Australia)
- 3-5 years of directly relevant development engineering experience
- Victorian local government development engineering experience (strongly preferred)
- Demonstrated experience applying the Infrastructure Design Manual (IDM)
- Proven ability to manage a development assessment caseload independently
- Experience in subdivision works supervision, inspections and engineering clearances
- Current Australian driver licence and the ability to attend Bannockburn and undertake site inspections
What's on offer: a temporary contract with Golden Plains Shire Council through to January 2027 (extension likely), a hybrid arrangement with ideally 3 days a week in the Bannockburn office once you're settled in, and a negotiable rate based on skills and experience.
