Project Accountant

An established and growing construction business is looking for a capable Project Accountant to join its finance team.

This is a hands-on opportunity for an Accountant with around 3–4 years' experience who enjoys variety, takes ownership of their work and wants to build on their financial and management accounting skills.

You'll work closely with the Financial Controller, gaining exposure to project profitability, financial reporting, payroll and the day-to-day financial operations of a busy construction business.

The Opportunity
This is more than a traditional month-end accounting role. You'll have the opportunity to understand how construction projects perform financially, work with operational teams and contribute to the information that drives business decisions.
Your responsibilities will include:

• Preparing month-end journals, reconciliations and financial reports
• Managing work-in-progress (WIP) calculations and project profitability reporting
• Assisting with budgets, forecasts and monthly management reporting
• Processing end-to-end fortnightly payroll, including STP, PAYG, superannuation and payroll tax
• Maintaining fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules
• Preparing BAS, IAS, FBT and other statutory compliance requirements
• Supporting year-end financial statements and external audits
• Working with project teams to ensure accurate financial information and reporting

What We're Looking For
You'll be a confident, detail-oriented Accountant who can manage competing priorities and enjoys working in a practical, commercially focused environment.
To be successful, you'll bring:

• A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
• Approximately 3–4 years+' accounting experience, ideally within construction or another project-based industry
• Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end payroll, including STP, superannuation, PAYG and payroll tax
• Sound financial accounting skills, including reconciliations and month-end reporting
• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems
• Good communication skills and the ability to work with both finance and operational stakeholders
• A proactive approach, strong attention to detail and a willingness to take ownership

Experience with WIP, job costing or project profitability reporting will be highly regarded.
CA/CPA qualifications, or progress towards completion, would be an advantage.
