About the Business

GREEN MOTOR WORK SHOP PTY LTD is an independent, owner-operated automotive repair and maintenance workshop in Tarneit, in Melbourne’s west. The workshop provides vehicle servicing, mechanical repairs, fault diagnosis and general maintenance to private motorists and local businesses, and its whole approach is built around one aim: returning every vehicle to the road safe, reliable and operating efficiently. Led directly by its Director, the business runs a close-knit team in which each mechanic works on the full job from inspection through to final road test, standards of workmanship are set and checked at the bench, and customers deal with the people who actually work on their cars. The workshop values careful diagnosis over guesswork, honest advice about what a vehicle does and does not need, and a tidy, safe working environment.

About the Position

The business is expanding its workshop team and is recruiting three full-time Motor Mechanics (General) to meet growing demand for servicing and repair work at its Tarneit workshop. Each position reports to the Director and carries responsibility for inspecting, diagnosing, servicing and repairing light vehicles across engines, brakes, transmissions, steering and suspension, and for testing each vehicle to confirm it is safe and performing correctly before it is returned to the customer. In a workshop of this size every mechanic carries real responsibility: managing their own jobs from start to finish, guiding apprentices and junior workshop staff as required, keeping accurate records of the work performed, and helping the Director maintain the turnaround times and quality on which the business’s reputation depends. All three positions are available immediately, and applicants may be considered for any of them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicles and diagnose mechanical and related faults using diagnostic equipment, visual inspection and road testing
  • Perform routine servicing and scheduled maintenance, including engine oil and filter changes, fluid checks and replacement, belts, hoses, brakes and tyres
  • Repair or replace faulty mechanical components, including engine, braking, transmission, steering and suspension parts
  • Dismantle, overhaul, reassemble and adjust engines, brakes, transmissions, steering and suspension systems
  • Test engines, brakes, transmissions, steering and suspension systems after repair to confirm the vehicle operates safely and efficiently
  • Identify additional faults found during servicing, explain the required work clearly to the customer and complete it once authorised
  • Record all work carried out, parts used and labour time accurately on job cards and workshop records
  • Maintain tools, equipment and the workshop bay in a clean, safe and orderly condition in line with workplace health and safety requirements
  • Guide apprentices and junior workshop staff as required and check the quality of their work before vehicles are released

Requirements

  • Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
  • A minimum AQF Certificate III in Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology, or an equivalent automotive mechanical trade qualification
  • At least one year of experience as a motor mechanic in a vehicle servicing and repair workshop
  • Sound diagnostic skills across engine, braking, transmission, steering and suspension systems, including the use of diagnostic scan tools and the ability to read service manuals and technical specifications
  • Working knowledge of workshop health and safety practices, safe handling of fluids and parts, and accurate completion of job cards and service records
  • Clear communication with customers and colleagues, including the ability to explain faults and repair options in plain terms
  • Reliability, attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and complete work within agreed turnaround times
  • Willingness to guide workshop staff and to maintain consistent standards of workmanship across the team
