Role Details
The Senior Finance Officer provides high-level support in the delivery of comprehensive financial management services for SAMSB events, including budget development and monitoring, month-end reporting, financial analysis, reconciliations and compliance with relevant financial frameworks.
 
The role contributes to the effective operation of the Finance, Risk and Audit Committee (FRAC) by supporting the secretariat with the preparation of papers and reports, monitoring actions, providing financial input and assisting with governance, audit and risk-related activities. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the role also provides coordination and support across key business systems, including BoardPro, contract management, procurement and event management platforms, to improve system use, support business processes and ensure systems are aligned, fit-for-purpose and responsive to organisational needs.

Key Outcomes of Role

  • Prepare complex financial reports and reconciliations and undertake detailed and regular financial analysis to assist informed decision making and direction.
  • Undertake financial activities relating to the regular production of reporting for Board and Executive review.
  • Support the collation and analysis of financial information for the purposes of reporting revenue and expenditure for event budgets.
  • Provide expert guidance and assistance on financial related matters to the wider team.
  • Coordinate and support the implementation and ongoing maintenance of systems (e.g. CRM, procurement, event management, board, risk management), working across teams to ensure alignment, clear communication and timely delivery.
  • Develop and maintain procedures and records to support consistency, compliance and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with DPC to ensure all aspects of the Service Level Agreement relating to finance and systems are managed effectively.
  • Support the FRAC secretariat by preparing reports and papers, providing financial analysis, monitoring actions and contributing to the effective management of governance, audit and risk matters.
  • Identify, assess and monitor financial, operational and system-related risks, and contribute to the development and implementation of mitigation strategies to strengthen organisational controls and governance.
  • Exercise delegated authority and provide operational leadership, including acting in the role of Head of Finance as required, making decisions on complex financial matters and ensuring continuity of critical business functions.

Special Conditions

  • The Incumbent will be required to participate in the department's Performance Management Program.
  • The Incumbent may be assigned to another position at this remuneration level or equivalent.
  • Some work outside of normal hours will be required.
  • This role requires a National Criminal History check.
