About the Role:
The Living Collection Curator is responsible for the effective delivery of assigned projects and professional support functions that contribute to the achievement of the goals and objectives of Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium Living Collection Curation programs. In this capacity, the role manages, or contributes to, the delivery of complex data and collection development projects that address a range of critical priorities including: living collection related procedures and systems, coordinating delivery of the living collections records management services and products, facilitating projects related to living collections and conservation, and liaison with a range of staff, volunteers and external agencies.
Role based at Adelaide Botanic Garden, but projects and influence across Adelaide, Mount Lofty, Wittunga Botanic Gardens and Botanic Park.

Contract:
Contract for up to 12 Months.
Essential Criteria (including qualifications):
- A university degree in Botanical or Horticultural Science or equivalent.
- A current Class C driver’s licence.
- Willingness and ability to safely operate a 4WD.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.
- Maintains up to date and sound knowledge of best practice botanic garden living collection conservation methods, with a general knowledge of the botanic estates species and ability to identify plants.
- Demonstrated experience and current knowledge of the processes, methods and frameworks associated with project management.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding of the principals and importance of data management within a botanic gardens environment.
- Demonstrated experience and a fundamental understanding of the principles of botanic gardens living collection management, including plant label making, mapping, materials transfer and naming nomenclature.
Special Conditions:
- May be required to participate in emergency preparedness, response and recovery activities required by government agencies.
- You must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or provide evidence that you hold a valid working visa that allows you to work in Australia.
- The Department for Environment and Water is committed to providing a safe environment to all children and young people who access our services and visit our sites. This role requires candidates to provide a valid Working with Children Check which must be renewed every five years before expiry. DEW will cover the cost of renewal.
- This role requires candidates to provide a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check which must be renewed every three years before expiry. DEW will cover the cost of renewal.
- May require some intra/interstate travel and some out of hours may be required.
- Will be required to work at all BGSH botanic garden estates.
A successful applicant who is not currently employed by the Department for Environment and Water will be required to have an original photo identification document sighted and provide a valid Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) issued within the last 12 months. This information must be supplied by all applicants who are shortlisted for interview.
Remuneration:
PO2 $94,769 min - $109,787 max p.a.
