About the role

This role involves preparing, updating and reviewing civil and residential construction drawings, site plans and field mark-ups using AutoCAD and other drafting tools. You will interpret civil engineering and architectural drawings, site surveys, building requirements, relevant regulations and project specifications to support accurate design, planning, construction and site execution for residential construction projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Prepare, update and review civil construction drawings, site plans, field mark-ups, initial sketches, detailed drawings and concept 2D and 3D drawings using AutoCAD and other drafting tools for residential construction and civil works projects.
  2. Interpret civil engineering drawings, architectural plans, site surveys, building codes, relevant regulations, project specifications and site requirements to support accurate design, planning, construction and site execution.
  3. Record site measurements, set-outs, existing site conditions and completed works, and incorporate relevant information into as-built drawings, working drawings and design revisions.
  4. Prepare and maintain drawings relating to residential developments, including site layouts, floor levels, driveways, accessways, drainage, stormwater systems, retaining structures, earthworks and other associated civil works.
  5. Maintain drawing revisions, technical records, quality-control documentation, contract documentation and supporting project information throughout the project lifecycle.
  6. Communicate and coordinate with engineers, architects, designers, project managers, supervisors, surveyors and construction crews to obtain technical information, clarify design requirements and translate engineering designs into practical site set-outs and construction activities.
  7. Identify design clashes, site constraints and constructability issues and assist with practical design, drawing and site adjustments to suit existing site conditions and construction requirements.
  8. Support the preparation and documentation of earthworks, excavation, footings, slabs, retaining walls, drainage, stormwater infrastructure, driveways, pavements, landscaping interfaces and other civil works associated with residential construction projects.
  9. Check dimensions, levels, locations, clearances, materials, completed works and construction activities against approved drawings, project specifications, quality requirements, building regulations, relevant standards and site conditions.
  10. Conduct site inspections and assist with quality assurance and compliance checks to ensure civil and residential construction works are completed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, regulations and required standards.
  11. Prepare council approval, planning and construction drawings for residential development projects, coordinate with relevant local councils and consultants for planning lodgements and approvals, and arrange final approved drawings for preparation of working and construction drawings.
  12. Calculate project quantities and costs, prepare estimates, schedules and contract documentation, and provide support in relation to design, estimating and project planning requirements.
  13. Assist with quantity take-offs for construction materials, earthworks, concrete, drainage, pavements and other civil construction activities associated with residential projects.
  14. Organise, plan and prioritise drafting, design, estimating and project documentation activities to meet project deadlines and construction requirements.
  15. Coordinate with construction teams regarding ongoing residential projects, project planning, design requirements, estimating matters, site conditions and other technical or construction-related issues.
  16. Check that construction work, materials and supplies meet applicable rules, regulations, project specifications, quality requirements and relevant Australian Standards.
  17. Review survey information, levels and site measurements and incorporate accurate data into civil drawings and construction documentation.
  18. Follow WHS procedures and project requirements relating to excavation, construction activities, site access, plant and equipment, traffic management and safe civil construction practices.

About You

  1. Diploma in Quantity Surveying/Architectural Draughtsmanship/Civil Engineering/Building Design/Quantity Surveying/or a relevant equivalent qualification.
  2. AutoCAD 2D & 3D (Civil and Drafting) certifications or relevant equivalent qualifications.
  3. Minimum three years (3) relevant experience in civil engineering drafting, civil construction drafting, residential construction documentation or related construction projects.
  4. Strong AutoCAD capability and demonstrated ability to interpret and produce civil, engineering, site development and residential construction drawings and mark-ups.
  5. Practical experience with site measurements, survey information, site set-outs, levels, as-built information, drawing revisions, site inspections and quality-control documentation.
  6. Knowledge of residential construction processes, civil works, earthworks, drainage, stormwater systems, site development and construction documentation.
  7. Ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil and engineering drawings and coordinate information across different project disciplines.
  8. Understanding of Australian building regulations, relevant standards, council requirements and WHS procedures applicable to residential construction and civil works.
  9. Strong attention to detail, technical drawing skills and ability to work accurately to project specifications, construction requirements and deadlines.
  10. Good communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers, architects, surveyors, project managers, supervisors, contractors and construction teams.
