Your new company
Hays Energy is partnering with a leading Australian electrical contractor delivering complex HV infrastructure projects across utilities, industrial, renewables, data centres, defence and major infrastructure sectors. Due to continued growth, they are seeking a Senior HV Design Engineer to join their Brisbane team and help shape the future of their engineering capability.
Your new role
Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you will lead the design and delivery of HV power system projects while providing technical leadership across engineering and project teams. This is a genuine opportunity to influence project outcomes, mentor engineers and contribute to strategic business growth.
Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver HV power system designs and associated engineering documentation.
  • Prepare and review single line diagrams, protection and control schematics, equipment layouts, earthing designs and technical specifications.
  • Undertake and review power system studies including load flow, fault level, protection coordination, arc flash and cable sizing assessments.
  • Liaise with utilities, Network Service Providers, consultants, suppliers and project stakeholders.
  • Support tendering, technical submissions and commercial activities.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring and oversight to engineering team members.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian Standards, utility requirements and statutory regulations.
  • Support project delivery teams through design, commissioning and project execution phases.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful, you will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or equivalent.
  • 5-10+ years' experience in HV power system design.
  • Strong experience with substations, switchgear, transformers, protection systems and HV cable networks.
  • Experience delivering utility connection and grid connection projects.
  • Knowledge of power system studies including protection coordination, fault analysis and earthing design.
  • Strong understanding of Australian Standards, NSP requirements and AEMO frameworks.
  • RPEQ registration or eligibility to obtain registration.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
