Lead clinical excellence when it matters most

Western District Health Service is seeking an experienced and motivated After Hours Coordinator to join the team at Casterton Memorial Hospital.

This permanent part-time opportunity offers 56 hours per fortnight, with the opportunity to work additional hours to support service requirements. As the senior nurse on duty after hours, you will provide clinical and operational leadership across the campus, ensuring safe, high-quality and person-centred care is delivered at all times.

Working in partnership with the Director of Nursing and multidisciplinary teams, you will coordinate patient care, staffing, admissions, emergency responses and operational issues while supporting staff and maintaining clinical excellence across the service.

What You'll Be Doing

Clinical Leadership & Coordination

Provide visible senior nursing leadership and operational oversight across the Casterton campus after hours, supporting staff and ensuring high standards of patient care and professional practice.

Workforce Coordination

Coordinate staffing levels, skill mix and employee deployment in response to patient acuity and service demand, ensuring safe and effective workforce management.

Emergency Management & Escalation

Respond to clinical deterioration, incidents, emergencies and operational issues, coordinating appropriate responses and escalation as required. Lead campus responses to emergency and disaster procedures during rostered shifts.

Patient Flow & Service Delivery

Oversee patient flow, admissions and bed capacity in consultation with medical officers and clinical teams, supporting efficient and safe service delivery.

Staff Support & Mentoring

Provide clinical advice, leadership, guidance and mentorship to nursing staff, students and new team members, fostering a culture of learning and professional growth.

Quality, Risk & Governance

Monitor standards of care, identify and report risks, support continuous improvement activities and ensure clinical practice aligns with WDHS policies, professional standards and legislative requirements.

What You Bring

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse
  • Postgraduate qualification relevant to advanced clinical practice, such as Emergency Nursing or RIPERN
  • Advanced Life Support competency
  • Triage competency
  • Advanced clinical nursing skills appropriate to after-hours health service management
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a healthcare environment
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, negotiation and organisational skills
  • Sound knowledge of clinical governance, accreditation standards, quality systems and continuous improvement
  • Current unrestricted Victorian Driver Licence (or equivalent)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • Rights to work in Australia
