This is a hands-on Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) role supporting Visy’s Co-Generation (CoGen) plant in Coolaroo - an innovative waste-to-energy operation that powers on-site paper manufacturing. The EHS Officer will take ownership of environmental compliance and safety performance across a 24/7 industrial site, working closely with operations and contractors to ensure regulatory requirements are met while fostering a proactive, high-performing safety culture.
What you'll do:
- Lead environmental compliance across multiple permits and licences, ensuring alignment with EPA and regulatory requirements
- Manage environmental monitoring and reporting (emissions, waste and air quality)
- Drive safety systems including incident investigations, audits, inspections and corrective actions
- Support and influence a strong safety culture through coaching, engagement and visible site presence
- Play a key role in planning and safely delivering the annual shutdown, through contractor management, risk assessment and the implementation of mitigation measures.
What You Will Bring:
- Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or similar
- OHS qualifications will also be highly regarded
- 2–5 years’ experience in EHS within manufacturing, energy, mining or similar heavy industry
- Strong understanding of environmental regulations, permits and compliance frameworks
- Experience with safety systems, incident investigation and risk management
- Ability to influence, engage and build trust with operators, trades and contractors on site
