APS6 Senior Communications Officer
Location: Canberra, ACT

Hourly Rate: $63 - $71 per hour
Our government client is seeking an experienced communications professional to lead the development and delivery of strategic communication initiatives across a diverse portfolio of projects and programs.
This role will suit someone with exceptional writing skills, strong media and stakeholder engagement experience, and a passion for creating compelling content that connects with audiences. You will provide expert communications advice, oversee digital engagement activities, and help shape messaging that supports organisational goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic communications plans for key projects and initiatives.
- Support media engagement activities, including drafting media releases, responding to enquiries, and fostering positive media relationships.
- Manage social media strategy, content planning, and audience engagement.
- Provide expert advice on messaging, tone, and communications risk management.
- Work collaboratively with internal stakeholders to ensure communications are consistent, appropriate, and aligned with organisational objectives.
- Monitor campaign performance and audience engagement metrics, providing insights and recommendations.
- Lead the development of engaging and impactful content across multiple channels.
Skills and Experience
- Exceptional written communication and storytelling skills.
- Demonstrated experience in media relations, stakeholder engagement, and campaign development.
- Strong ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Experience developing audience-focused communication strategies and content.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality outcomes.
- Well-developed analytical skills with the ability to interpret engagement data and campaign performance.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across teams and build positive working relationships.
- Strong judgement, initiative, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and content creation platforms, including Adobe Creative Suite and Google Workspace applications.
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, media, marketing, business, arts, film, or a related discipline.
