About the Business
Desi Barber Perth is a men’s barbershop at 59B Walter Road West, Dianella, in Perth’s northern suburbs, trading seven days a week from 9am to 7pm. The shop specialises in men’s grooming — scissor cuts, skin and taper fades, line-ups, beard trims and shaping, and finishing — and serves a loyal base of regulars alongside a steady walk-in trade from the surrounding suburbs. It runs a clean, modern set-up where the standard is a sharp, consistent finish on every client, delivered at a fair price and without a long wait, and its barbers take pride in the detail of their work and in the easy, welcoming atmosphere that keeps clients coming back.
About the Position
The Hairdresser will work a full-time chair at the Dianella shop, delivering the complete range of men’s cutting, fading, beard and finishing services to the shop’s standard. The role carries responsibility for consulting with each client, executing the cut cleanly and to time, keeping the station and tools sterile and ready between clients, and helping manage the flow of walk-ins and bookings across a seven-day roster that includes weekends. In a small shop where every chair is client-facing, the Hairdresser is central to the consistency, speed and service that the business’s reputation is built on.
Key Responsibilities
- Consult with each client on the cut, fade, beard shape or style he wants, assess hair type, growth pattern and face shape, and advise on what will suit him and how to maintain it between visits
- Cut men’s hair with scissors, clippers and razors, including skin fades, taper fades, scissor cuts, crew cuts, line-ups, edge-ups and children’s cuts, to a clean and consistent finish
- Shampoo and condition hair and scalp before and after services as required
- Trim, shape and line up beards and moustaches, and perform hot-towel and straight-razor shaves
- Style and finish hair by blow-drying and applying products to achieve the agreed look
- Apply colour, grey blending and other chemical treatments to hair when requested, following manufacturer directions and safety requirements
- Clean, disinfect and sterilise clippers, blades, scissors, razors and combs between clients, and keep the chair, station and floor tidy in line with hygiene and infection-control standards
- Greet clients, manage walk-ins and appointments, keep the queue moving on busy days, and process payments accurately
- Recommend and sell hair and beard care products suited to each client
- Maintain stock at the station, report low supplies and equipment faults, and help keep the shop presentable at open and close
Requirements
- Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
- Certificate IV in Hairdressing.
- At least one year of experience as a hairdresser or barber.
- Technical skills: confident, precise clipper, scissor and straight-razor work, including skin and taper fades, line-ups and beard sculpting; sound knowledge of hygiene, sterilisation and infection control in a barbershop; ability to work a booking and point-of-sale system and handle cash and card payments accurately.
- Interpersonal skills and attributes: clear, friendly communication with a diverse male clientele; speed and consistency under walk-in pressure; a careful eye for detail and finish; reliability and punctuality across a seven-day roster including weekends; well presented, and able to work as part of a small, close team.
