About the Business

AFF is an established cotton-growing, cotton handling and agricultural business operating in regional New South Wales.

We are seeking a experienced Irrigation Technicians to support the organisation and management of operational information across our cotton warehouse and agricultural operations in Narrabri, NSW and Moree NSW.

The successful applicants will be responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance and optimisation of irrigation systems supporting large-scale agricultural production. The positions are suited to practical and technically capable individuals with experience in irrigation systems, agricultural water management and the operation and maintenance of irrigation infrastructure.

These are hands-on roles requiring the ability to work independently in an agricultural environment and to respond effectively to changing operational and weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

The Irrigation Technician will be responsible for:

  • Operating, monitoring and maintaining agricultural irrigation systems and associated infrastructure.
  • Monitoring irrigation water application, flow rates, pressure and system performance.
  • Inspecting irrigation equipment, pumps, pipes, valves, fittings, sprinklers and related infrastructure.
  • Identifying irrigation system faults, leaks, blockages, pressure issues and equipment failures.
  • Carrying out routine preventative maintenance and minor repairs to irrigation equipment and infrastructure.
  • Assisting with the installation, adjustment, modification and commissioning of irrigation infrastructure.
  • Operating irrigation pumps and associated control equipment.
  • Monitoring water usage and irrigation requirements to support efficient water application.
  • Maintaining irrigation records, operational logs and maintenance records.
  • Liaising with farm management and other agricultural staff regarding irrigation requirements and system performance.
  • Supporting efficient water management across agricultural production areas.
  • Maintaining irrigation equipment, tools and work areas in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Complying with workplace health and safety, environmental and agricultural operating procedures.
  • Performing other reasonable irrigation and agricultural duties associated with the position.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working with agricultural irrigation systems.
  • Practical knowledge of irrigation pumps, pipes, valves, fittings and associated equipment.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot irrigation system faults.
  • Experience undertaking routine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Understanding of agricultural water management and efficient irrigation practices.
  • Good mechanical and practical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and follow irrigation layouts, operating instructions and technical information.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a broader agricultural team.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and a practical approach to problem solving.
  • Ability to work outdoors and undertake physically demanding tasks when required.
  • Current driver's licence or ability to obtain one.

A relevant qualification in irrigation, horticulture, agriculture, water management, mechanical engineering or a related field will be highly regarded. Relevant industry experience may also be considered.

  • Salary of $80,000 - $90,000 per annum plus superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.
