Summary
Our client is seeking to add a full-time Carpenter to its established building products and home improvement business in Somerton, Victoria. Builders Market Pty Ltd supplies bathroom, kitchen, laundry, flooring and decking products to builders, tradespeople, renovators and homeowners, and also provides installation services, including flooring installation, as part of its business.
The Carpenter will undertake practical carpentry, installation, flooring, fit-out, fixing, renovation and repair work associated with the company's sales and installation activities. The role requires accurate measuring, cutting, preparation and installation of materials; use of appropriate hand and power tools; fixing and securing of components; and checking completed work for alignment, level, security and workmanship.
The Carpenter will work across timber, flooring and other associated materials while maintaining safe working practices and organised project and work areas.
The typical job responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Read and interpret drawings, specifications and measurements to determine materials, dimensions and installation requirements.
• Select, measure, mark, cut, shape and prepare timber and other building materials for installation.
• Carry out general carpentry installation, fit-out, assembly and fixing work.
• Carry out timber framing work, including positioning and fixing timber components in accordance with site or workshop requirements.
• Prepare and install cladding, checking alignment and securely fixing materials to the required substrate.
• Install flooring, door and window frames, fixtures, fittings and other building components.
• Complete fixing and anchoring work, including drilling and securing components using appropriate fasteners and fixings.
• Prepare and fix subfloors (timber and concrete) as required for flooring installation.
• Repair, renovate, replace and adjust damaged timber structures, fixtures and fittings, including doors, door jambs, trims and architraves.
• Work with timber, laminates, lightweight metals and other materials used in customised installation work.
• Use hand and power tools safely and check completed work for level, alignment, security and finish.
• Prepare materials and work areas, maintain tools and equipment, and follow workplace health and safety procedures.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the role:
• AQF Certificate III in Carpentry, including the required workplace training, or Certificate IV in the relevant field; or at least three years of relevant carpentry experience where a relevant formal qualification is not held.
• At least 12 months' relevant practical experience in carpentry construction, installation, fit-out, renovation or repair work.
• Ability to read and follow construction drawings, specifications, measurements and installation instructions.
• Demonstrated skills in measuring, cutting, preparing, assembling and securing timber and other building materials.
• Practical experience in flooring, framing, general carpentry installation, fitting, fixtures or related building work.
• Competent and safe use of carpentry hand tools, power tools and measuring equipment, including fixing and fastening work.
• Ability to check dimensions, alignment, levels, security and finished workmanship while following workplace health and safety requirements.
• Ability to organise materials and work areas and work effectively with others.
