While the role is primarily office-based, you'll also visit different locations as required, with access to a fleet vehicle for work-related travel. The role is preferably based in Whyalla, with some flexibility around location for the right candidate. You can learn more about living and working with us in regional South Australia on our website.
This is an opportunity to put your leadership experience to work in local communities, contributing to better outcomes for children and young people in care. Whether you're already based in the area or considering a move, you'll receive a thorough induction and in-depth on-the-job training to support your transition into the role.
This role will suit someone with experience leading geographically dispersed teams who brings a calm, considered approach to their work. You'll be comfortable addressing challenging situations and managing conflict when it arises. Your ability to remain composed and offer clear guidance instils confidence in those around you and contributes to supportive team environments.
You will be responsible for:
- Leading a 24-hour workforce to provide safe, culturally responsive care
- Building staff capability through mentoring, performance management and reflective practice
- Managing staffing and resources to meet individual care needs, including placement decisions and safety planning
- Coordinating with case teams, families and other services to support positive outcomes and connections with family and community
- Overseeing residential house operations and ensuring facilities are safe and well maintained.
About you:
- You are an experienced leader who can manage staff, resolve conflict and provide practical advice on residential care practices
- You can analyse problems and develop sound solutions informed by relevant policies, procedures and legislation
- You understand child and adolescent development, care and protection needs, and crisis intervention strategies
- You can identify when programs need to change and guide improvements to meet care needs
- You recognise the impacts of colonisation and trauma on Aboriginal children and families and are committed to improving outcomes.
