Position Overview:

As Motor Mechanic at Star Service Centre you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing vehicles to ensure their optimal performance and safety. The Motor Mechanic role involves diagnostics, repairs, servicing, and safety checks, ensuring all work meets quality and safety standards. It also requires clear communication with customers to explain issues and recommend solutions.

Tasks & responsibilities:

  • Examine vehicle systems and individual components to identify mechanical faults, excessive wear, or operational defects.
  • Remove, dismantle, and reinstall engines, gearboxes, steering systems, and associated vehicle components using approved mechanical procedures.
  • Carry out repairs or replace damaged parts to restore vehicle functionality in line with manufacturer and industry standards.
  • Ensure that tools and diagnostic equipment are in good working order to prevent delays.
  • Utilise computer-based diagnostic tools and electronic testing equipment to detect and analyse mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Assemble engines and mechanical systems following repair work, ensuring correct fitting, calibration, and performance.
  • Conduct comprehensive checks on systems such as basic electrical, fuel, cooling, and exhaust to ensure proper function.
  • Complete routine servicing and preventative maintenance tasks, including oil and fluid replacement, lubrication, and engine adjustments.
  • Test vehicle systems after repair or servicing to confirm safe operation and reliable performance.
  • Consult service manuals, technical documentation, and manufacturer specifications to support accurate diagnosis and repair processes.
  • Assess vehicles for compliance with road safety and emissions requirements and identify necessary corrective work.
  • Perform vehicle inspections and, where authorised, issue roadworthiness certification or prepare reports detailing required repairs.
  • Keep up to date with manufacturer specifications, automotive technologies, and industry repair methods to ensure high-quality workmanship.
  • Learn latest automotive technologies and repair methods to maintain service quality.
  • Follow safety protocols during repairs and handling hazardous materials correctly.
  • Follow local and national automotive regulations, including emission standards and safety guidelines.
