STUDY AND WORK helps organisations hire emerging talent with the passion to make a difference. We currently have several community organisations, NDIS providers, aged care facilities, and not-for-profits looking to host Social Work Interns through our “Try Before You Hire” Professional Internship Program.
ABOUT OUR CLIENTS
As a Social Worker Intern, you will support experienced social workers, case managers, and program coordinators in delivering essential services to individuals, families, and communities. You will work with teams committed to creating positive social impact across various sectors including mental health, disability, family support, aged care, youth work, and multicultural services.

ABOUT THE POSITION
During your internship, you may gain hands-on experience in:

  • Conducting client intake, needs assessments, and background research
  • Supporting case management and care coordination under supervision
  • Developing care plans and service referrals
  • Participating in outreach programs and community engagement
  • Supporting clients through advocacy, crisis response, and emotional support
  • Helping clients navigate housing, employment, and welfare services
  • Attending case conferences, interagency meetings, and stakeholder events
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential client records
  • Assisting in the evaluation and reporting of support services
  • Promoting cultural awareness, social inclusion, and client empowerment

ABOUT YOU
To maximise your impact and potential job opportunities during or after your internship, you should have:

  • A degree or final-year enrolment in Social Work, Human Services, Community Services, Psychology or a related field
  • Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
  • Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a genuine desire to support others
  • Effective communication, documentation, and active listening skills
  • Basic understanding of social work ethics, legislation, and trauma-informed care
  • Experience (even voluntary) in welfare, support work, or counselling is a plus
  • A current Working with Children Check and Police Clearance (or willingness to obtain)

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
We charge a success-based internship facilitation fee of $2,200 (inc GST), payable only upon your acceptance of an internship offer after a successful interview.
The fee includes:

  • A guaranteed 12-week internship placement
  • Structured internship agreement and training plan
  • Insurance coverage
  • Ongoing support, mid- and end-point performance evaluations
  • Certificate of Work Experience
