Strategic Planner | Permanent Opportunity | Regional Queensland Council

Due to continued investment in the region's future, an exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Strategic Planner to join their Strategic Land Use team. The role focuses on shaping the future development and sustainability of the region through strategic planning initiatives.
Your new role
As Strategic Planner, you will play a key role in the development and delivery of strategic land use planning projects that support regional growth and community outcomes. Working within a collaborative planning team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing strategic land use plans, master plans and precinct planning projects.
  • Preparing high-quality planning reports, correspondence and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assisting with planning scheme implementation, reviews and amendments.
  • Providing expert planning advice in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and planning frameworks.
  • Engaging and negotiating with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, developers and community groups.
  • Supporting community engagement activities and contributing to strategic planning initiatives across the region.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation within Council operations.
  • This opportunity would suit an experienced planning professional looking to make a genuine impact on the long-term development of a growing regional community.

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Degree qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three years' experience in strategic planning, town planning or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of the Planning Act 2016 and relevant planning legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience developing strategic planning instruments, master plans, precinct plans or related planning projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across a broad stakeholder group.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Current Queensland C Class Driver Licence.
  • Previous Local Government or State Government planning experience will be highly regarded.
