Your new companyAn exciting opportunity exists for an experienced communications leader to join a large and complex department on a 6-month contract. At ASO7 level, this role offers the chance to influence communication outcomes across the organisation while leading a small, high-performing team.
This position will suit a well-rounded communications professional who understands the complete communications function, from strategic planning and executive communications through to events, stakeholder engagement and internal communications delivery. Working closely with senior leaders, you will provide trusted advice, manage competing priorities and ensure communication activities align with organisational objectives.
Your new roleAs Principal Communications Advisor, you will lead the planning and delivery of communications initiatives across a broad portfolio of work. A key component of the role will be developing executive messaging and preparing high-quality communications on behalf of senior leaders, including CE communications.
You will oversee internal communications activities, manage event communications and delivery, provide strategic communications advice and lead communication planning for priority projects and initiatives. You will also be responsible for managing a small communications team, ensuring work is delivered to a high standard and within tight timeframes.
Success in this role will require strong judgement, political awareness and the ability to identify and respond to emerging issues while maintaining strong relationships across a diverse stakeholder group.
What you'll need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in a senior communications leadership role in a Government setting
  • Exceptional writing, editing and content development skills
  • Experience developing executive communications
  • Strong internal communications and employee engagement experience
  • Proven ability to lead and develop a small team
  • Excellent communication planning and project management skills
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing capability
  • Sound political judgement and the ability to work in complex environments
  • Availability to commence immediately for the duration of the contract
  • The successful candidate must be willing for Hays to run a national police clearance
