Your new company
Hays is partnering with a government organisation seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to support a busy payroll function. Working within a collaborative team environment, you will play a key role in ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while delivering a high standard of customer service and payroll support.
Your new role
As a Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for the accurate processing of payroll and employee remuneration activities across a large workforce. You will manage payroll transactions, maintain employee records, process payroll changes and provide advice regarding payroll related matters. The role will involve working with payroll legislation, awards, enterprise agreements and employee entitlements to ensure compliance and accuracy.
You will respond to employee and manager enquiries, assist with payroll reconciliations and reporting, process superannuation and taxation requirements, and support continuous improvement initiatives within the payroll function. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively within established payroll deadlines.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Previous experience in payroll within a medium to large organisation.
  • Strong understanding of payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and employee entitlements.
  • Experience interpreting awards, enterprise agreements and payroll policies.
  • Experience using payroll and HR systems such as SAP, SuccessFactors, Oracle, TechnologyOne, Chris21, Aurion, Micropay, Employment Hero, ADP or similar platforms.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage confidential information.
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
