What you’ll do?
As our Senior Payroll Officer, you’ll independently manage accurate, timely end-to-end payroll across multiple states while supporting employees and managers with clear, approachable advice. Sitting within the Finance team and partnering with People & Culture, Finance and external providers, you’ll oversee payroll, employment contracts, leave and employee movements. This role suits someone who enjoys solving complex payroll issues, improving processes and providing responsive, person-to-person support.
- Manage the full payroll cycle across multiple states, including validation, reconciliation and Single Touch Payroll lodgement.
- Interpret and apply awards, employment agreements, legislation and company policies.
- Process superannuation, salary sacrifice, novated leasing, termination and redundancy payments.
- Manage end-of-year payroll processes, reporting, journals and reconciliations.
- Oversee leave accruals, entitlements and Compnow’s five-week annual leave incentive.
- Prepare employment contracts and variations, and support employee onboarding and offboarding.
- Manage the payroll inbox and respond promptly to employee and manager queries.
- Maintain and troubleshoot ELMO Payroll while protecting payroll data integrity.
- Identify and lead process improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency and automation.
- Support payroll audits, compliance checks and related projects as your experience develops.
What you’ll bring?
- 3-5 years payroll experience, including independently managing end-to-end payroll.
- Experience processing payroll for a large employee population, ideally around 500 employees or more.
- Strong knowledge of leave accruals, entitlements, superannuation, salary sacrifice and novated leasing.
- Sound understanding of termination and redundancy calculations and employment contract preparation.
- High attention to detail, numerical accuracy and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
- A proactive, responsive communication style and the ability to explain payroll matters in plain language.
- An approachable, friendly and positive manner, with a willingness to speak directly with employees and managers.
- Employment Hero, ELMO, multi-state and end-of-year payroll experience will be highly regarded.
What else do you need to apply?
- Travel on-site to work in our office in Notting Hill and in a hybrid capacity. This role is also available in part-time hours (5 days a week from 10:00am - 3:00pm).
- Must be an Australian resident available to work full-time hours without restrictions.
