Suffolk Bakery is a well-known artisan bakery located in Suffolk Park, NSW, offering freshly baked pastries, cakes, pies, breads and café-style products prepared daily in a vibrant and customer-focused environment. Pastry Chef / Pastrycook
Salary: $80,000 per annum
Hours: Full-time – 38 hours per week
About the Role
The Pastry Chef is responsible for preparing a wide range of artisan pastry products, desserts, cakes and laminated pastries while maintaining the high quality and presentation standards expected by Suffolk Bakery. The role works closely with the Owner and senior kitchen team, assisting with day-to-day coordination of pastry production, maintaining quality standards and providing guidance to junior staff where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and producing high-quality pastries, desserts, cakes and laminated pastry products to Suffolk Bakery's standards.
- Producing artisan sweet and savoury pastry items, including croissants, Danish pastries, tarts, cakes, desserts, pies and related bakery products.
- Preparing fillings, creams, custards, ganache, chocolate decorations and other pastry components.
- Decorating and finishing cakes, pastries and desserts to ensure consistency in presentation and quality.
- Assisting with daily pastry production planning to ensure products are prepared efficiently and production schedules are met.
- Monitoring product quality and consistency throughout all stages of preparation and finishing.
- Assisting with stock rotation, ingredient preparation and minimising waste.
- Providing guidance and assistance to apprentices, trainees and junior kitchen staff as required.
- Maintaining food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and professional pastry kitchen.
- Working collaboratively with the Owner and senior kitchen staff to support the ongoing development of Suffolk Bakery's pastry range.
Selection Criteria
- Relevant trade qualification e.g. Certificate III in Patisserie (or equivalent)
- At least three years' experience preparing high-quality artisan pastries, desserts, cakes and laminated pastry products within a commercial bakery, pâtisserie or hospitality environment.
- Demonstrated experience producing a wide range of pastry products using traditional techniques.
- Strong attention to detail and presentation standards.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a professional kitchen team.
- Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, weekends and public holidays.
- Commitment to a long-term appointment.
