Shape the future of Medical Education in Western Australia

Curtin University is seeking an experienced health/ medical practitioner and educator to join Curtin Medical School as a Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor.
This is a unique opportunity to play a strategic leadership role in shaping Western Australia’s only undergraduate-entry medical degree.

Your new role
As a Senior Lecturer/ Associate Professor, you will provide academic leadership across the five-year MBBS program, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, contemporary curriculum that prepares graduates for the evolving healthcare landscape.

Working closely with the Director of Medical Education, Year Coordinators, academic staff and clinical partners, the Course Coordinator provides academic leadership, oversight, and operational coordination to ensure the effective delivery, quality assurance, and continuous improvement of the MBBS course.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Oversee enrolments, approve leave of absences, return and tracking CSP allocations
  • Providing leadership and support to Year Coordinators across Years 1-5 to ensure the continued quality, evaluation and enhancement of the MBBS curriculum.
  • Monitoring student progression, academic performance and wellbeing, working collaboratively with Year Coordinators to identify and support students' learning needs.
  • Guiding students on professional expectations, inherent requirements, workload and career pathways within medicine.
  • Leading communication with MBBS student cohorts regarding academic, professional and course requirements.
  • Preparing documentation to support course reviews, accreditation activities and quality assurance processes.
  • Reviewing course and unit evaluation data, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and engaging with students and key stakeholders.
  • Representing the MBBS program on School and University committees, including fieldwork, pre-clinical/clinical education and Board of Examiners.
  • Overseeing key student milestones, including orientation, internship application processes and graduation.
  • Ensuring key MBBS assessments are aligned with curriculum outcomes and accreditation requirements.
  • Contributing to the development, review and continuous improvement of curriculum and learning resources.
  • Supporting external accreditation activities and contributing to the strategic priorities of Curtin Medical School.
  • Undertaking other duties as directed by the Director of Medical Education, Associate Dean or Dean of Medicine.

About you

You are an accomplished health/medical practitioner/educator who is passionate about medical education and committed to developing future doctors. You bring strong leadership capability, a collaborative approach and a genuine commitment to student success, educational excellence and community-focused healthcare.

Selection criteria
What we’re looking for:

  • Health Professional/Medical degree with current unrestricted AHPRA registration (desirable)
  • PhD or Clinical Fellowship qualifications (highly desirable).
  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience, with exposure to curriculum development or educational initiatives with a reflective and innovative approach.
  • Experience with contemporary educational practices, scholarly educational initiatives.
  • Active engagement in health research projects and scholarly outputs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to pastoral care of students and staff.
  • Proven high level communication, interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on cross-cultural interactions and ability to manage teams.
  • Proven capability in modelling the Curtin Values

Role Requirements

This full-time continuing Senior Lecturer role attracts a remuneration package of $144,512 - $166,354 (ALC) / $178,845 - $196,832 (ALD) + *clinical loading + 17% superannuation.
