We're partnering with a major Queensland Government transport and infrastructure agency to find two Senior Cultural Heritage Officers on a 2-year contract (with a 2-year extension option), based at their Buderim office on the Sunshine Coast.
You'll sit within the regional Environment and Cultural Heritage Team, part of the branch that plans and delivers the region's transport infrastructure program and looks after the state-controlled road network. It's a genuinely hands-on senior role, giving Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultural heritage advice to major road and transport projects from planning and design right through construction and maintenance.
What you'll be doing
- Acting as the Senior Cultural Heritage Officer across multiple project delivery teams, providing cultural heritage advice and management through planning, design, construction and maintenance
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Traditional Owner groups
- Advising stakeholders on legislation, departmental policy, procedures and cultural heritage management requirements
- Undertaking cultural heritage assessments and preparing reports, management plans and agreements
- Managing and taking part in field work, including surveys, studies, monitoring, and regular project inspections and audits
- Working collaboratively within the Environment and Cultural Heritage Team
What you'll need
- A degree in archaeology, anthropology or cultural heritage management (or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution) - mandatory
- A complex understanding of cultural heritage management at both a strategic and project level
- Demonstrated experience conducting cultural heritage assessments and preparing reports, management plans and agreements
- Field work experience, including surveys, monitoring, inspections and audits
- Strong relationship-building skills, including with Traditional Owner groups, and a solid grasp of governance and risk management
- A current Class C driver's licence, and a current White Card (or the ability to obtain one)
- Willingness to undergo a criminal history check prior to appointment
Cultural heritage experience on infrastructure projects, and membership of a professional body such as AAA or Australia ICOMOS, will be well regarded.
What's on offer: up to $88.57 per hour + super (PO4, based on experience), a 2-year contract with a 2-year extension option, Monday to Friday hours, and the chance to shape cultural heritage outcomes across the Sunshine Coast and North Coast's major road projects.
