KEY POINTS WE FOUND
  • Lead retail operations across multiple remote community stores.
  • Manage day-to-day store operations including team leadership and inventory.
  • Build relationships with community leaders and residents.

Are you a seasoned retail leader who thrives in fast-paced, hands-on environments? Ready to take your skills across Australia and experience some of the country’s most unique and culturally rich communities?

We are delighted to be partnering with our client, a purpose-led organisation providing essential retail services to remote communities across Northern Australia. Their stores play an important role in supporting food security, local employment and community wellbeing, with a strong focus on developing local capability and creating sustainable opportunities for the communities they serve.

We’re looking for an adaptable and proactive Relief Store Manager to support retail stores across remote communities in the Northern Territory and Far North Queensland.

This is a permanent, full-time position with consistent, ongoing employment. The term “relief” refers to travelling between stores to provide leadership during periods of leave, vacancies and other operational needs. It is not casual or intermittent work.

This is also a site-based position in remote Australia, not a work-from-home role. You will travel between locations and live within the community during each placement, with company-provided accommodation included.
This is a rare opportunity to lead with purpose, build meaningful community relationships and grow your career while experiencing parts of Australia that few people ever get to see.

What You’ll Do:

  • Step into Store Manager positions across multiple remote community stores, covering periods of leave, vacancies and other operational requirements
  • Work on a permanent, full-time basis while moving between stores according to business needs
  • Travel between remote locations, sometimes at short notice, and live within the community during each placement
  • Manage day-to-day store operations, including team leadership, inventory, merchandising, cost control and community initiatives
  • Coach and mentor Duty Managers and local team members to build capability and improve performance
  • Oversee café and takeaway operations where applicable, ensuring food safety standards are maintained
  • Ensure accurate financial management, reporting and operational compliance
  • Build respectful and meaningful relationships with community leaders, residents and other stakeholders

What’s on Offer:

  • Permanent, full-time employment
  • Salary of up to $85,000 + 14% superannuation
  • Company-provided accommodation and utilities while living in community
  • Relocation support to help you make the move
  • Diverse and rewarding work across multiple remote locations
  • A clear career pathway within a values-driven organisation
  • The opportunity to experience remote Australia in a way few people ever do

What You’ll Bring:

  • Strong skills across retail operations, stock control and team management
  • A flexible, calm and solutions-focused approach
  • The adaptability and resilience to live and work in remote community environments
  • A culturally respectful approach and the ability to build relationships with people from diverse backgrounds
  • A valid driver’s licence, or willingness to obtain one
  • Full Australian working rights

Highly Regarded, But Not Essential:

  • Previous remote community retail or relief management experience
  • First Aid, Food Safety, Forklift or 4WD certifications

This is more than just a job. It’s an opportunity to lead with purpose, make a genuine contribution and grow professionally while living and working across some of Australia’s most extraordinary remote communities.
