Position Overview

The Electrical Engineering Technician is responsible for supporting the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, and optimisation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems and associated electrical equipment. The role assists engineering staff by conducting technical testing, diagnosing electrical faults, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards, and maintaining the safe and efficient operation of solar energy systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·Assist in the installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of residential and commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems.

·Conduct electrical testing and inspections of solar panels, inverters, switchboards, batteries, cabling, and associated electrical equipment.

·Perform diagnostic testing to identify electrical faults and assist in implementing effective corrective actions.

·Monitor the performance and efficiency of installed solar systems and recommend improvements where required.

·Assist in preparing technical drawings, wiring diagrams, installation layouts, and engineering documentation.

·Ensure all electrical installations comply with Australian Standards, electrical regulations, and workplace health and safety requirements.

·Support engineers in evaluating system performance and conducting preventative maintenance programs.

·Calibrate, test, and maintain electrical instruments, monitoring equipment, and testing devices.

·Record technical data, prepare installation reports, maintenance records, and inspection documentation.

·Liaise with engineers, electricians, suppliers, and clients regarding technical requirements and project progress.

·Assist with troubleshooting and resolving electrical issues during installation and after commissioning.

·Ensure materials, equipment, and tools are maintained and used in accordance with company procedures.

·Participate in site inspections and quality assurance activities to ensure projects are completed to specification.

·Comply with all company policies, environmental requirements, and workplace health and safety procedures.

Requirements:

·Diploma or higher qualification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related discipline.

·Minimum five (5) years relevant experience.

·Demonstrated knowledge of electrical systems, solar PV installations, testing equipment, and electrical safety standards.

·Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.

·Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

·Excellent communication and organisational skills.

·Ability to work independently and collaboratively within project teams.
