Are you an experienced supermarket leader ready to take ownership of a high-performing Fresh or Perishables department?

Our client is a highly regarded, WA-based independent supermarket business with a strong reputation for quality local and fresh produce, genuine community connection and exceptional customer service.

With continued growth across Western Australia, they are looking for an experienced Department Manager to join their South Perth team, with opportunities across Fresh, Produce, Dairy, Bakery, Meat and Perishables.

The Opportunity Reporting to the Store Management team, you will take ownership of the day-to-day performance of your department, leading your team while ensuring high standards across sales, service, merchandising, stock control and compliance.

You will be responsible for:

  • Leading, coaching and developing your department team
  • Managing rosters to ensure the department is fully supported across peak trading periods
  • Driving sales, customer service and overall department performance
  • Managing stock ordering, inventory levels, waste and shrinkage
  • Monitoring department GP and wage performance against budget
  • Maintaining exceptional presentation, merchandising and product availability
  • Ensuring correct product rotation, quality and freshness standards
  • Maintaining food safety, hygiene and OH&S compliance
  • Responding to local market conditions, customer needs and seasonal trends
  • Working closely with Store Management to identify opportunities for growth and improvement

You will be an experienced supermarket or fresh food leader who enjoys being hands-on and taking ownership of a department.

Ideally, you will bring:

  • 2+ years' experience in a supermarket department leadership role
  • Proven experience leading and developing a retail team
  • Strong understanding of supermarket retail operations
  • Experience managing stock, ordering, waste and department profitability
  • Understanding of local market conditions and seasonal trends
  • Strong customer service and merchandising capability
  • Sound understanding of food safety and hygiene standards
  • A current Food Handling Certificate
  • The ability to thrive in a busy, fast-paced local supermarket environment
  • Availability to work early mornings and across flexible trading hours

Experience across Fruit & Veg, Dairy, Bakery, Meat or other Fresh/Perishables categories will be highly regarded.
