Assistant Director | OSHC | Gladesville Area

What if leadership felt less like pressure and more like purpose?

You’re not just after a job, you’re looking for the right fit. A place where you can lead with clarity, be supported, and make a real impact.

This not-for-profit OSHC in the Ryde area is ready for a capable Assistant Director to co-lead alongside an experienced Director and help shape a culture built on care, connection, and quality.

If that sounds like something you’ve been waiting for, keep reading.

What you’ll actually do?

Let’s be real, you already know what an Assistant Director does. But here, it’s about how you do it, and the room you’re given to do it well.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Support the Director with day-to-day operations like rostering, ratios and team support
  • Mentor educators through challenges, growth and the daily joys of the job
  • Guide quality across programs, planning and practice
  • Build meaningful relationships with children, families and the school
  • Design Vacation Care programs that kids will talk about for weeks
  • Share admin responsibilities with a full-time administrator (you’re not on your own)
  • Be part of strategic decisions as the service transitions to a P&C model

There are currently split shifts, but block shifts are on offer if that’s what works for you. Flexibility isn’t just talk here.

The service:

Think community-first, values-led and steady in all the right ways. You’re not walking into chaos, you’re stepping into something solid, with room to make your mark.

  • Independent, not-for-profit OSHC with strong school ties
  • 180 children in afternoons, 120 in mornings — busy but well-staffed
  • Dedicated OSHC facilities, including your own office
  • Use of the school hall, library and outdoor zones
  • A capable and present Director who values autonomy and shared leadership
  • An experienced team with space to grow and support to get there

Why this will feel different?

This is a place where people share the load, the Director listens, and leadership is about connection, not control.

  • You’ll have autonomy, but never feel alone
  • You’ll be trusted, with structure behind you
  • You’ll lead people, not just manage tasks
  • You’ll shape something real, not just maintain what’s already there

Who this suits You’re someone who:

  • Has 4 or more years in OSHC and knows how to support and guide a team
  • Is ready to step into leadership that matters — not just responsibility for its own sake
  • Brings a calm, people-first approach to daily service life
  • Wants to stay in the sector and grow their long-term impact
  • Bonus: has used OWNA or Deputy and understands CCS, though that’s not essential

Formal qualifications are a bonus but not a dealbreaker. What matters is how you lead!

Child Safeguarding:

Looking for an individual that will understand, adhere to, and promote The National Principles for Child Safe Organisations (the Child Safe Standards). In your position, you will help to take action to promote child wellbeing and prevent harm to children and young people.

Child safeguarding methods for this position, could include, but are not limited to:

  • A NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC) or willingness to obtain.
  • Thorough screening.
  • Reference checks.
  • A national criminal history check.
