About the Role:
We need a qualified accountant to take carriage of the company's financial reporting and project accounting. The position reports to [the Director] and works closely with site and administration staff. It will suit someone who has worked in construction or another project-based business and is comfortable running the accounting function end to end rather than sitting in one narrow area of it.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preparing monthly management accounts and annual financial statements for the Director
- Running job costing across active projects, tracking actual spend against budget and reporting variances
- Accounting for progress claims, retentions and work in progress
- Preparing and lodging BAS, IAS and PAYG obligations, and liaising with our external tax agent
- Overseeing payroll, superannuation, payroll tax and workers compensation declarations
- Processing subcontractor payments and verifying ABN, GST and insurance status before release
- Cash flow forecasting, and assessing the financial risk of plant and equipment purchases
- Maintaining internal controls and approval limits over purchasing and payments
- Maintaining the accounting system ([Xero / MYOB]) and its integration with our job management software
- Providing costing input on tender pricing and reviewing completed project profitability
- Supporting the external accountant at year end
Skills & Experience:
- A bachelor degree or higher in accounting, commerce or finance
- At least 1 years' experience working as an accountant
- Working knowledge of Australian tax and reporting obligations, including GST, BAS, PAYG withholding, superannuation and payroll tax
- Experience with Xero or MYOB and solid Excel skills
- Clear written and spoken English
